Historic board OKs 51-unit apartment building

A new four-story apartment building on Montgomery Street was approved Wednesday by the Historic District Board of Review at its monthly meeting.

The 14,000-square-foot building proposed for 615 Montgomery St. — known as Bowery II in reference to the Bowery apartments which are already in operation a block north – will include 51 units with partial underground parking.

The board also approved the demolition of a non-historic structure built in the 1990s, which currently occupies the property.

The estimated cost for the project is $6 million, and like the previous Bowery complex, the project is being developed by Lat Purser and Associates and designed by BeachamBunce+Manley Architecture; both firms are based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The design details of the building will be submitted to the board for approval at a later date.
